Macbeth

I was not excited when I learned that we would be reading Macbeth. After reading Romeo and Juliet as a freshman, I was not looking foward to reading anymore Shakespeare. But Macbeth is better than I had expected. The fact that the story is gruesome makes it more exciting to read. Although the language is difficult to understand I can usually overcome this by re-reading it a couple of times. I would not have been able to understand Macbeth if I had tried to read it outside of school. There are usually parts that I do not understand and need to have explained to me. So far Macbeth has been far more enjoyable to read than I had expected.

Canterbury

The cathedral's history goes back to 597 AD when St. Augustine, sent by Pope Gregory the Great, established his seat in Canterbury. St. Augustine was given a church at Canterbury and then became an archbishop to the pope. He established his seat within the roman city walls and built the first cathedral there, becoming the first archbishop of Canterbury. In 1170 Thomas Becket was murdered in the Cathedral.

My Writing Experience

I have always struggled with english and writing throughout school. I have always been more of a science or math person. As a freshman I had a smaller vocabulary which caused my papers to suffer even more than they do now. Having a small vocabulary while struggling with sentence structure and grammer caused my papers to not flow well. I have also struggled with length. When my teacher sets minimum amount of pages for our papers I have always struggled to meet that amount. I find myself putting extra, unecessary sentences in my paper to fill the gaps and meet the page number requirement. This has also caused my papers to not flow well. Hopefully this year I will develop as a writer, improve my vocabulary, and find ways to keep my paper flowing while meeting the minimum requirements.

I'm not a very good writer, but I'm an excellent rewriter. ~James Michener

My Hero

My hero would have to be my dad. He is the person I look up to most. He is hard working. He has worked hard all of his life in order to graduate from college and get where he is today. Also, he has been a great role model for me throughout my life. He kept me motivated to work in school as well as sports. He works two jobs in order to support our family. He is almost always in a good mood and has a great sense of humor. He has had a great influence on my life and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
